I keep hearing people talking about how they probably won't vote or that they don't care. And finally I just couldn't take it anymore. I thought for a long time of something intelligent that I could say to them and this is what I came up with. The election is always weighing heavily on my mind especially right now when times are tough on everyone. You can tell times are tough just by going to the gas station or reading the paper. Most of the conversations today are about tough times. Usually I just hear a lot of complaining, but not with enough passion to actually want to do anything about it. Sometimes I hear someone who is truly concerned about an issue, but doesn’t know how to help. To the average complainers and to the truly concerned: VOTE. This is a crucial point in history and I can no longer listen to pessimists who shrug off their right to vote. And if you were ever denied the right to vote at any point in history then you should celebrate your vote. The people who fought for the Fifteenth and Nineteenth Amendment worked so hard so that you could exercise these rights, not take them for granted. I am just shocked by those who will not vote simply because of lack of enthusiasm or information. Your vote is important. People’s lives will be affected by this election! If you are able to vote you should, period. So why aren’t you going to vote? Let me tell why you should: If you have ever complained about gas prices then you should vote. If you are shocked by the amount of taxes taken out of your paycheck then you should vote. If you have an opinion about minimum wage then you should vote. If you can not find a job then you should vote. If you are working hard just to get by then you should vote. If you want a good education for yourself or your children then you should vote. If you want better support for teachers then you should vote. If you want to be able to afford higher education then you should vote. If you are worried about our environment then you should vote. If you think we are too dependent on foreign oil then you should vote. If global warming is important to you then you should vote. If you do not have health insurance then you should vote. If you have ever had any opinion about the War in Iraq then you should vote. If you have ever wanted to help those in poverty then you should vote. If you believe in equal rights then you should vote. If you have any opinion about immigration then you should vote. If you are saddened by homeless veterans then you should vote. If you meet the legal requirements then you should vote. So before you start thinking that your one vote won’t make a difference, stop to think how many others are thinking like you and how that is making a difference, but not in a good way. Before you belittle your right to vote think of the bigger picture. If we could change the minds of most of the pessimists then together we really could make a difference. We could make a difference for ourselves, our families, our children and future children, our friends, our veterans, and America as a whole. VOTE.
